As of the 2010 census, the town/city population was 62,209. A Shawnee Indian mission had been established at the present site of Shawnee in 1831.
In 2010, Shawnee was recognized by Money Magazine in its annual "Best Places To Live" survey, placing 17th in the United States ranking.
Shawnee is positioned at 39 0 46 N 94 45 57 W (39.012767, -94.765818). According to the United States Enumeration Bureau, the town/city has a total region of 42.86 square miles (111.01 km2), of which, 41.85 square miles (108.39 km2) is territory and 1.01 square miles (2.62 km2) is water. Shawnee Mission Park is a 1,600-acre (6.5 km2) park that includes a 120-acre (0.49 km2) lake. According to the 2007-2009 American Community Survey (2) the median income for a homehold in the town/city was $71,705, and the median income for a family was $86,408.
As of the census of 2010, there were 62,209 citizens , 23,651 homeholds, and 16,876 families residing in the city.
