As of the 2010 census, the town/city population was 1,473. Harper was established in 1877 by a colony from Iowa. The town/city of Harper, like Harper County, is titled for Sergeant Marion Harper of the 2nd Kansas Cavalry, who fell in the Civil War. Harper was incorporated as a town/city in 1880. The first postal service in Harper was established in May 1877 as Cora City, but in June of that year, the postal service was retitled Harper. Harper is positioned at 37 17 07 N 98 01 36 W (37.285252, -98.026615). According to the United States Enumeration Bureau, the town/city has a total region of 1.63 square miles (4.22 km2), all of it land. The ethnic makeup of the town/city was 92.2% White, 0.2% African American, 1.3% Native American, 0.1% Asian, 0.5% Pacific Islander, 4.8% from other competitions, and 1.0% from two or more competitions.

There were 624 homeholds of which 30.9% had kids under the age of 18 living with them, 47.0% were married couples living together, 8.7% had a female homeholder with no husband present, 6.1% had a male homeholder with no wife present, and 38.3% were non-families.

The median age in the town/city was 40.3 years.

25.1% of inhabitants were under the age of 18; 8% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 22.8% were from 25 to 44; 25.1% were from 45 to 64; and 19.1% were 65 years of age or older.

The ethnic makeup of the town/city was 97.57% White, 0.13% African American, 0.64% Native American, 0.57% from other competitions, and 1.08% from two or more competitions.

There were 675 homeholds out of which 28.0% had kids under the age of 18 living with them, 51.3% were married couples living together, 8.7% had a female homeholder with no husband present, and 38.2% were non-families.

In the city, the populace was spread out with 26.0% under the age of 18, 6.4% from 18 to 24, 22.0% from 25 to 44, 23.9% from 45 to 64, and 21.7% who were 65 years of age or older.

Anthony is served by USD 361 Anthony-Harper. USD 361 was created through school unification that merged Anthony and Harper schools.

Both Anthony and Harper have elementary schools.

Harper High School was closed through school unification.

The Harper High School mascot was Bearcats. "2010 City Population and Housing Occupancy Status".
